| The AORTIC 2011 conference that was held in Cairo, Egypt from 30 November - 2 December 2011, was a resounding success. The conference attracted 300 delegates – the vast majority from 32 of the 54 countries in Africa. Other participants and speakers were from the USA, UK, Germany, Colombia, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Spain, France, Canada, Saudi Arabia and India. |
| AORTIC 2013 will be held in Durban, South Africa and we look forward to meeting you all there again! |

The AORTIC Council had a very successful meeting today and are looking forward to the AORTIC 2011 conference that will commence with pre-conference workshops tomorrow. Welcome to all our delegates that have arrived today to attend the AORTIC 2011 Cancer Conference “Entering the 21stCentury for Cancer Control in Africa” in Cairo, Egypt. |

Please be informed that we are aware of the recent events in Cairo. Note that the AORTIC 2011 conference will go ahead as scheduled. The AORTIC 2011 conference will take place at the Intercontinental City Stars hotel in the Heliopolis area, 7km from the airport and 20km from downtown Cairo and there are no government buildings in the vicinity. In addition, good security is in place at the conference venue. We do not expect any disruptions. We look forward to seeing you all soon in Cairo! Our conference organisers are in Cairo at the moment and have reported that there were no travel issues at the airport and en route to the conference venue. We are in constant contact with our team on the ground and will keep you updated regularly. It is a pleasure and a privilege, to invite you to Cairo, Egypt, for the 8th International Conference entitled “Entering the 21st Century for Cancer Control in Africa”. |
| The 8th International Conference will be hosted by the African Organisation for Research & Training in Cancer (AORTIC). | |

AORTIC's key objectives are to further research relating to cancers prevalent in Africa; support the management of training programs in oncology for health care workers, and to deal with the challenges of creating cancer control and prevention programs, as well as raising public awareness of cancer in Africa.

| We are confident that the scientific program will be very informative and stimulating, the social activities will promote lasting friendships and that the pre and post conference tours will give you the opportunity to explore this exciting region of the world. When you visit Cairo, Egypt, we would encourage you not to miss the wonderful tourist attractions of the country. A visit to the Pyramids, Egyptian museum and Khan el-Khalili market, is a must-see for all. So, do make a point of penciling the dates of 30 November - 02 December 2011 in your diary. | |

| Les principaux objectifs de l’OAREC sont entre autres poursuivre les recherches relatives aux cas de cancers prévalent en Afrique ; apporter un support ? la gestion des programmes de formation en oncologie pour les acteurs du domaine de la santé et pour faire face aux défis de la mise sur pied des programmes de lutte contre le cancer et les programmes de prévention, ainsi que sensibiliser le public au sujet du cancer en Afrique. | |
| Nous sommes convaincus que le programme scientifique sera très instructif et stimulant, les activités sociales favoriseront une amitié durable et les visites avant et après la Conférence nous donnerons l'occasion d'explorer cette passionnante région du monde.
